Description

insect repellent deet sprayInsect Repellent DEET + CITRIODIOL Spray for Mosquito and Tick Protection

Does a summer evening by the campfire or a quick job in the garden always end the same way – mosquitoes find you and the fear of ticks keeps you from relaxing? Insect repellent DEET + CITRIODIOL spray is sprayed directly onto the skin and provides a strong protective layer that helps repel both mosquitoes and ticks for up to 4 hours.

Key benefits at a glance

  • DEET 15% + CITRIODIOL 15% – a combination of two widely used active ingredients in one spray
  • Strong protection against mosquitoes and ticks
  • Spray directly onto skin; when applying to the face, use the “hands-then-face” method
  • Protection for up to 4 hours (also depends on sweating, contact with water, friction)
  • Convenient, leak-proof spray bottle – fits in the car, backpack, or tackle box
  • Developed for use in the garden, hiking, fishing, campfire evenings, hunting, and other outdoor settings
  • Complies with current safety and regulatory requirements (biocide, product type 19)
  • ✅ In stock – fast delivery in 1–3 business days (In Toidupakk.ee MatkaPRO’s standard practice, most orders arrive in 1–2 business days)

Why two active ingredients?

“Repelling” insects is essentially a game of scents and signals. Mosquitoes and ticks use scent receptors (including CO₂, body odor, skin scents) to find a host. That’s why repellents that create an unpleasant or confusing “scent barrier” on the skin work best for insects.

Insect repellent DEET + CITRIODIOL spray combines:

  • DEET (N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide) – one of the most studied and widely used repellents, where the general rule applies: higher concentration = longer protection time.
  • Citriodiol (Eucalyptus citriodora oil, hydrated, cyclized) – a plant-derived repellent active, whose main component is PMD (p-menthane-3,8-diol).

A practical plus for you: one spray suitable for both mosquito and tick season, especially when you move between forest edges, tall grass, watersides, and the home garden.

mosquito and tick protectionWhat is Citriodiol and how does it work?

Citriodiol® is the trade name for an active ingredient produced from Eucalyptus citriodora (lemon eucalyptus) essential oil through a process where natural citronellal is largely converted into PMD (p-menthane-3,8-diol). PMD is considered the main driver of this active repellent.

How does citriodiol (PMD) repel mosquitoes and ticks?

  • It affects the insects’ sense of smell: the repellent disrupts/repels the signals by which the insect “targets” you, reducing the likelihood of landing and biting.
  • Unlike a “kill-the-bug” approach, the goal of a repellent is to keep the insect away from you – this is especially convenient when you’re on the move and don’t want sticky insect repellent residue on your clothes/gear.

Additionally, Citriodiol is an active ingredient belonging to the PT19 (repellents and attractants) category under European biocide regulations.

Citriodiol vs citronella

Confusion often arises here because the names sound similar.

  • Citriodiol comes from eucalyptus and is a PMD-rich repellent active.
  • Citronella generally comes from lemongrass and its effect is usually shorter in many studies – effectiveness is often noticeable in the first hours but decreases rapidly over time. For example, it has been shown that citronella oil’s repellency drops significantly within just 1–2 hours.

That’s why Citriodiol (PMD) type solutions are known among plant-based options as a “more serious” alternative – not just a scented candle or a brief deterrent, but a more realistic protection period (depending on the product and concentration).

Where and when does this spray provide the most value?

Insect repellent DEET + CITRIODIOL spray is suitable for situations where you:

  • do garden work (evening watering = mosquito party),
  • go hiking or in the woods with the dog,
  • sit fishing or in a boat (insect load is often higher near water),
  • enjoy a campfire evening, camping, or hunting

If you always include it in your carry-along kit with other outdoor gear (flashlight, matches/fire starter, small first aid, power bank), it will be one of the most used items in the summer.

  1. Shake before use.
  2. Spray a small amount onto hands, not directly onto the face.
  3. Apply with hands to the face, neck, and other exposed skin.
  4. Do not apply to skin under clothing and do not spray on damaged or irritated skin.
  5. Protection lasts up to 4 hours; renew if necessary (e.g., after heavy sweating, swimming, or towel drying).

Practical reminder: when applying sprays to the face area, it is always recommended to use the “hands-then-face” method and avoid inhalation.

Safety Information

  • Do not use on children under 3 years of age.
  • Do not allow children to apply the repellent themselves. For children, an adult should apply it, avoiding hands/eyes/mouth.
  • The repellent is recommended for use only on bare skin and/or according to the label, not under clothing.
  • May damage fabric – test first on a small, less noticeable area (especially synthetics, membrane clothing, elastane, soft plastics).
  • Contains Citronellol, citronellal, and cineole – may produce an allergic reaction.
  • If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children.
  • Dispose of contents/containers in accordance with waste disposal requirements.
  • Contains biocide (product type 19). Read the instructions before use.

Tick protection “full cover”

No spray replaces good habits. You get the best results if you do this:

  • use repellents on exposed skin,
  • wear long sleeves and long pants, tuck pant legs into socks or boots,
  • perform a body inspection after being in nature (especially back of knees, groin area, armpits).

If you frequently move in tall grass or thick brush, it’s also worth considering treating clothing and sock tops separately (for example, with permethrin-treated solutions – that’s a separate product category and usage logic).

FAQ

How often should I reapply?
The product provides protection for up to 4 hours, but in real life, duration is affected by sweating, friction, rain/swimming, and individual skin characteristics. The general principle is that a higher concentration of active ingredient provides longer protection, but always follow the specific product label.

Can I spray it directly on my face?
The recommendation is not to spray directly onto the face. Spray onto hands and then apply to the face.

Is it suitable for children?
This product must not be used on children under 3. For older children, apply as an adult and avoid hands/eyes/mouth.

Why not use only citronella?
Citronella can provide a shorter deterrent, but studies show the effect tends to drop off faster over time. Citriodiol/PMD is a different, PMD-rich active that has become a stronger standard among plant-based choices.

Can it ruin clothes?
Yes, the repellent may damage fabric (especially technical materials). Always test on a small area and do not apply to skin under clothing.
