Instructions for use

  1. Place the Swedish torch upright on a flat surface. It is important that the torch is away from flammable materials.

  2. The bottom hole containing the wick must be at the lower end.

  3. Light the torch from the wick and wait about 10 minutes until the candle has caught fire. The flame height is approximately 20 cm.

  4. If the torch should go out for any reason (e.g., due to strong wind), drop a lit match through the top chimney and the torch should reignite on its own.

    What is a Swedish torch?

A Swedish torch (also known as a Swedish torch or Canadian candle) is a practical and impressive way to make a fire. It is a single log with cuts or drilled holes that allow it to burn in a controlled and stable manner. The torch is then filled with a flammable substance and a convenient wick is added. The mosquito-repellent version also contains lemongrass extract. A Swedish torch acts as both a light and heat source and is perfect for outdoor use – for example, on a hike, at a summer home, or at a garden party. The version with cuts can also be used for cooking by placing a pan on top of the log.

    Historical background

The idea of the Swedish torch dates back to the 17th century and is associated with the Swedish army, where it was used on the battlefield as a simple and efficient fire source. Since small firewood was scarce in many places, a way was developed for a single log to function instead of a campfire.

How do Swedish torches work?

The Swedish torch burns using the chimney effect. The flame and hot air move upward inside the log, while fresh air moves in from the bottom – this ensures continuous combustion.

There are two main types of Swedish torches:
