What is a fireplace log candle?

A log candle or fire log (known as a Swedish torch or Canadian candle) is a practical and impressive way to make a fire. It is a single piece of wood with cuts or drilled holes to ensure controlled and stable burning. The log candle is then filled with a flammable substance and a convenient wick is added. The mosquito-repellent log candle also contains lemongrass extract. The log candle works as both a light and heat source and is perfect for use in a fireplace, while camping, at a summer home, or at a garden party. A fire log with cuts can also be used for cooking by placing a pan on top of the log.

    Historical background

The idea of the log candle dates back to the 17th century and is associated with the Swedish army, where it was used as a simple and efficient fire source on the battlefield. Since small firewood was scarce in many places, a way was developed for a single log to function instead of a campfire.
