What is a Swedish torch?

A Swedish torch (also known as a Swedish torch or Canadian candle) is a practical and impressive way to make a fire. It is a single log with cuts or drilled holes that allow it to burn in a controlled and stable manner. The torch is filled with a flammable substance and includes a convenient fuse. The mosquito-repellent version also contains lemongrass extract. It serves as both a light and heat source and is perfect for outdoor use – such as hiking, at a summer home, or a garden party. The version with cuts can also be used for cooking by placing a pan directly on top of the log.

    Historical Background

The idea for the Swedish torch dates back to the 17th century and is associated with the Swedish army, where it was used on the battlefield as a simple and efficient fire source. Since small firewood was scarce in many places, a way was developed for a single log to function instead of a traditional campfire.
