Water purification tablets are essential

When hiking, you need to refill your water bottle, and where else to do it than at a spring or lake. Unfortunately, due to environmental pollution, it’s increasingly difficult to find completely clean water sources, and you’re often left wondering if the water is safe to drink. The same feeling applies when traveling in more remote countries. For example, the World Health Organization (WHO) attributes 80% of all travel-related illnesses to contaminated drinking water. Being stuck with stomach issues is never convenient while hiking or traveling. So, for prevention, it’s recommended to always carry Katadyn Micropur Forte water purification tablets.

How water purification tablets work

Even if a stream, river, or lake looks crystal clear, it can still contain numerous dangerous microorganisms that, if swallowed, lead to a range of gastrointestinal problems like diarrhea, vomiting, or in more severe cases, diseases that can even cause death. Therefore, it’s important that all water collected from an untreated source is sterilized before drinking.

Although using words like “chemicals,” such as chlorine, and “drinking water” together might seem odd, the tablets contain chemicals in safe amounts that dissolve in water and work to “destroy” dangerous microorganisms like bacteria or viruses, while making the water safe for human consumption.

Using water purification tablets

Katadyn Micropur Forte water purification tablets are a fast and effective effervescent water treatment for obtaining clean drinking water. One tablet treats one liter of water. Using silver ions, it preserves water for up to 6 months. Sodium dichloroisocyanurate (DCCNa) regulates the correct chlorine dose and quickly and effectively eliminates bacteria, viruses, and certain protozoa.

• Add 1 effervescent water purification tablet per liter of water. Let it work for 30 minutes.
• For cold water (<10°C) or to destroy protozoa, let it work for 2 hours.

Precautions

• Do not use with other products.
• May release dangerous gases (chlorine).
• Causes serious eye irritation. If in eyes: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention.
• If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Store in a dry place, protected from light, in the original packaging.
• Toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.
• Avoid release to the environment.
• Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local regulations.
