Boot care guide – how to maintain hiking boots?
ALPINA boots are produced using high-quality full-grain leather combined with innovative synthetic materials. To make the boots last for more years and maintain their functionality and appearance, they need occasional maintenance. By taking care of your footwear, you extend its lifespan and ensure a quality look. Maintaining footwear is not a complicated process; they mainly need cleaning and conditioning. By conditioning, we mean caring for the full-grain leather parts of the shoe. All care creams and liquids intended for full-grain leather are suitable for this. Depending on the weather, various moisture repellents, nano-waxes, etc., can be used. Leather care products are available in all shoe stores.
First, remove the laces from the shoes and wipe off loose dirt with a soft brush. If stubborn dirt is stuck to the sole, use a stiff-bristled brush for cleaning. The best time to clean hiking boots is immediately after a hike, before the dirt has dried into the boot. If necessary, you can also use running water and a shoe cleaner.
Dry the boots at room temperature in a location with low humidity. Do not use an extra hot location or hot air for drying. A good tip is to fill the boots with newspaper – this helps reduce the time it takes for the boots to dry.
ALPINA boots mainly use soles from two brands – Vibram® or MICHELIN
Vibram brand soles are known for their good grip properties on various surfaces. Especially valued by hikers in mountainous areas.
Michelin soles are known for their durability and lightness. The Michelin rubber compound works well on different soil types, certainly largely thanks to Michelin’s long-term experience with tire technologies and materials.
